the horror of jello...

Honestly, I don't know why this image has been floating around my head for a couple of months, but I had to get it out. I mean, what could be happier than jello?

ghillie suit FAIL!

A piece inspired by Ashley Wood's World War Robot paintings. Check out his site, which is updated very often, to see some of his progress works and studio. Links to the side. Oh, an be sure to google the amazing figures based on his works from 3A!

retiring...

One of the kindest souls I've ever met, Hugh LeRoy has been a wonderful instructor, and I know everyone that's had the pleasure to know this artist, can only sing his praises. Hopefully he doesn't mind me putting this up here!

inspired...

Rather than just adding links in the side bar to some of my favourite artists, I've decided to show a series of tributes I did to some of these amazing talents. Granted, I was only able to choose a handful for this project, mostly focusing on difference in subject matter and style, but I thought it would be a whole lot more interesting than just pasting them to the right.

The first two of these works were inspired by Bill Cone, Ralph Eggleston, and Dominiqe Louis from some of their Pixar work. Unfortunately, the latter two have no personal sites that I've found, but Bill Cone has a wonderful blog showcasing some of his en plain air work in soft pastels. Make sure to read up on some of his thoughts, setup and process. Truly great stuff. Enjoy.

Wood bots...

Started out as a drawing and ended up as a demo for class. I chose to work in the style and subject matter of some of my favourite artists that have inspired me over the years. Hopefully I haven't butchered Ashley Wood's work too much. If so, my apologies. Either way, I'll hopefully get a few more up.

continued...

The fourth in the series. Originally, there were more creatures this duo 'bothered', but like always, time didn't allow it. Maybe I'll finally add that monstrous crab as an extra piece! The pencil drawing below as well.

the space dog...

Started these a while ago, got busy with other work, and never had a chance to finish. Finally, I have some time and will be doing more in the series. Oh, and I posted a couple of the original drawings.

spacedog series...

I wanted to take a pencil series I started last year and add some colour, redoing some of the aspects I rushed on in the process. While the focus throughout was more on the 'alien' environments, I was unhappy with the lack of detail in the characters, and so, wanted to give them the attention they deserved.

The funny thing is, I felt I started with Luke Skywalker's rebel pilot outfit and finished off with a clone trooper. Damn the wonderfulness that is Star Wars!

Originally, the dog was a German Shepherd breed, but like always, my dog fell into the mix. He also became less mechanical and more canine.

Purple cows and windmills, because eating some chocolate got me thinking...

ninja turtles...

Oh, the ninja turtles. Started this one day and might actually do some of the other supporting characters. Who knows? In my vision of these fearsome foursome, I wanted to find a balance between the original more serious characters by Eastman and Laird, and the lightheartedness of the 1987 cartoon series which I pretty much grew up on. Thanks.

Assassin's Creed 3?

Big fan of the series and looking forward to the sequel. To pass the time, some character designs on where Desmond's ancestors may have gone next? Maybe Feudal Japan mid to late 15th century. Okay, now I'm just getting carried away. Enjoy.

Jakob...

The main protagonist in my personal project, also pictured in last weeks post. I'll be showing more of these characters over the next few weeks as a nice departure from the monstrous figures I always seem to be drawing. Enjoy.

the rooftops...

A concept I did recently for another project I've been working on in my spare time. The city represents a jumbled mess of architecture with thousands living in a constricting space. More info soon.

Just a quickie to celebrate Pixar's new film, Up. More summer updates coming soon! Enjoy.

character concepts...

I've been doing a lot of large scale pencil drawings lately and I feel those have helped my pencil work, especially when it comes to loosening up and knowing where to add the most important details. Anyways, here are a few character concepts from another personal project I keep chipping away at. Hopefully more on that soon.

revisions...

Well, this started as a contest entry, but it turned out as a catalyst to something more. I ended up redesigning other characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man, and let me tell you, it certainly wasn't easy. Going in to it, I was immediately aware the I was at a disadvantage. I mean, how the heck would I take such iconic characters and make them my own, so to speak. I did my best to pay tribute to what was already there, while still wanting to have enough originality. Either way, it was tremendously fun, so hopefully I'll post some more soon.

...and another that never went anywhere but this blog.

and in the opposing corner...

Another concept for a project where the idea was to create a "uber-assassin" with human features, though anything but. I was inspired by some images of caterpillars in the design of the mask and furred head and added the cape-like satin material protruding from its back for some delicate balance.

Runs on a Mac...

Something a little less serious. I left it pretty sketchy, so I didn't bother with any specific details, but I'm noticing that I don't pay enough attention to legs. I'll focus better next time.
