character concepts...

I've been doing a lot of large scale pencil drawings lately and I feel those have helped my pencil work, especially when it comes to loosening up and knowing where to add the most important details. Anyways, here are a few character concepts from another personal project I keep chipping away at. Hopefully more on that soon.

Well, this started as a contest entry, but it turned out as a catalyst to something more. I ended up redesigning other characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man, and let me tell you, it certainly wasn't easy. Going in to it, I was immediately aware the I was at a disadvantage. I mean, how the heck would I take such iconic characters and make them my own, so to speak. I did my best to pay tribute to what was already there, while still wanting to have enough originality. Either way, it was tremendously fun, so hopefully I'll post some more soon.

Another concept for a project where the idea was to create a "uber-assassin" with human features, though anything but. I was inspired by some images of caterpillars in the design of the mask and furred head and added the cape-like satin material protruding from its back for some delicate balance.

Runs on a Mac...

Something a little less serious. I left it pretty sketchy, so I didn't bother with any specific details, but I'm noticing that I don't pay enough attention to legs. I'll focus better next time.

Recently got a new DSLR (Canon XTi Rebel) and I thought I'd show some random images that I've taken. Still getting a hang of it though.

the horsemen...

Well, this started out as the four horsemen, but quickly grew to five, than six. I toned down the colours from the original as I wanted to have an ominous feel without going entirely monochromatic. I also changed the layout from vertical to horizontal, hoping to better establish the sense of speed.

just sitting...

Ah, the memories! I remember people staring as they walked on by. I'm sure they were wondering what the hell I was doing sitting in the center of this field all alone, bound to the grass and fiddling away on my mac. Well, this was it, among many others, I sketched that year.

head hunter...

An image I've been grueling over for a while, but finally said no more, and finished him to some extent. A mercenary for hire by the name of Vaucus Maar, in the same vain as Boba of Jango with parts and accessories made from his unfortunate victims.

Originally a sketch showing an emblem for a group of soldiers, it quickly became a whole lot more as I continued. The concept art, as previously posted is for Clan Arena, so if your interested in helping out this talented team, head on over to their official website.

the end farmers...

Just an image that popped into my head late at night once. Again, it grew into something bigger than I had imagined. From seaside farms on a wet afternoon to a scene that engulfed the landscape in blinding pollution and reduced it to a pile of rotting waste. Oh the joy!

Clan Arena design

A character design I created for Clan Arena of a futuristic soldier, playable in the demo. My Precious...

A study of light, colour, and CS3, I did this sketch of my precious pooch to try out a few new techniques that all together didn't go as well as I hoped. Oh well, try, try again.

An image I recently made of a serene city among cascading falls. Although it changed drastically when compared to the original sketch, I kept at it and this was the result.

Second Post

Well, I guess my first with any substance. Here are a few works I made recently, one of which is a personal project I've been working on for quite a while. The bird is a character in a story tentatively titled "The Great Migration". Hopefully one day they'll be more than just sketches. Enjoy.
